We’re recruiting for a Facilities and Health & Safety Manager to join a well-established education setting near Shaftesbury, Dorset.

The Facilities and Health & Safety Manager is a critical member of staff. Reporting to the HR & Operations Manager, the post-holder will need to have the knowledge, confidence, and skills to lead, influence and advise staff at all levels in matters of H&S and Compliance.

The unique site means that you will be working in a dynamic and challenging role developing your H&S knowledge in some niche areas including buildings of varying ages and staff of varying degrees of understanding regarding Health & Safety legislation and best practice.

You will have a broad spectrum of key responsibilities in this role.

To be successful the following qualities, qualifications and experience are essential: –

–           Experience of working in an education setting

–           At least 3 years recent and relevant experience in a similar role

–           HND (or similar) in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering

–           NEBOSH (General Certificate) qualified or working towards

–           NEBOSH certificate accreditation and NEBOSH Environmental Certificate

–           COSHH Trained

–           Experience of provision of advice to managers/supervisors

–           Handling of H&S investigations

–           Experience of formulating, implementing and revising H&S policies and procedure

–           Strong IT Skills

–           Leadership ability to give independent minded people a sense of direction and the capacity to motivate them to improve including coaching and developing staff. Ability to delegate effectively, passing on skills and knowledge. Identify strengths and weaknesses to develop staff to maximise their potential for the benefit of the setting

–           Project management experience

–           Grounds and premises management experience

–           Managing and leading teams

–           Able to always maintain the strictest confidentiality and integrity

–           Sensitivity when collaborating work with colleagues at all levels

–           Highly organised and efficient and able to work to tight deadlines, often under pressure

–           Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relate well to a wider range of stakeholders

–           Able work under your own initiative

–           Ability to work as part of a diverse team

–           Able to promote the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people across the setting

–           Ability to inspire confidence and trust in others

–           Ability to influence others’ practice positively

–           Promoting the ethos and values of the setting to all stakeholders

–           Commitment to maintaining confidentiality

–           Commitment to safeguarding and equality

–           Pro-active, enthusiastic, resilient, and positive with an open mind to change

–           Flexible approach

Hours of work for this position are Monday to Friday 37 hours per week, on a temporary basis for the first 12 months.  This position will then be reviewed for a permanent position.
